    You say that with the collinear constraint, order matters, but you don't explain how. Also, is there still no way to set midpoint constraints in a rational manner? It just chooses which point goes to the midpoint of which line. I always assume that the order should define which is the midpoint-er and which the midpoint-ee, but it seems to be arbitrary, and fiendishly difficult to fix when the program guesses wrong.

    • @ProductDesignOnline
      @ProductDesignOnline 6 годин тому

      Collinear constraint selection order: The first line or edge you select will remain fixed in its current position. The second line or edge will be adjusted to become collinear with the first selection. This means that the second line will move and rotate to align perfectly with the first line. For Midpoint, you (typically) first select the point or entity that you want to move. The second selection is the line or entity that will have the point constrained to its midpoint. The surrounding constraints can 'override' some of this behavior, which is why at times it can feel like it's behaving differently.

    I tried to use this to help me as it has the splitting the file using a body to make a registration cut. While this video helped me a lot, it falls short as changes to Fusion seem to have taken the process in a different direction than the tutorial. It’s been four years so no big surprise. It would be nice to have you update this video to the current fusion. It sure would be helpful as this video was probably perfect for when you published it.

    Very nice job....was easily able to follow the tutorial and ended up with a usable custom stamp that I combined with a vise to create a leather stamp...but the handle makes it easy to test with ink first to make sure the stamp is exactly as I like. Very rare to complete a tutorial and get a working part as a bonus!

    I’m having an issue where the whole bottle “top” is selected neck included and I can not fillet or shell the bottle

    • @ProductDesignOnline
      @ProductDesignOnline 18 годин тому

      Double check two things. First, make sure your very top line has a horizontal constrain in the sketch. If that top surface is not planar (flat) then you won't be able to select it for Shell. Second, you may need to adjust the top spline handle in the sketch, making the curve of the spline larger. If it's too 'sharp' then it won't have enough area for the Shell to follow the curve.

    i followed this exactly up until the point of creating the second component. i do it exactly like you, right click, select new component and instead of just adding another component the dialog pops up for "new component" just like the bolt. tried moving along with the tutorial but as soon as i get to the section view the cross section is not lined up like yours. the tops of the pitch are basically inside one another. any help to fix these issues would be appreciated

      There is likely another constraint that was automatically applied. Double-check that you don't have any other constraints that would restrict it from making the sides equal in length. If you can share your file, I can take a look.

    • @ProductDesignOnline
      @ProductDesignOnline 6 днів тому

      My understanding is that the CPU and RAM are what's important for the conversion. I've noticed a pretty big difference when I use my Mac Studio vs an older Macbook Pro. That said, it does also depend heavily on the model. Mainly, how many mesh facets.

    • @ProductDesignOnline
      @ProductDesignOnline 6 днів тому

      @@smokey5882420 Thanks for the additional info! What printer(s) do you have? It will also depend on that quite a bit. Once you get them dialed in, shouldn't have to change them much. PLA should be the eastist to get primed in. Try printing a Benchy or some other test blocks using the default settings and a .1mm layer height. That's usually a good starting point where you can start to troubleshoot what could be improved. For TPU, you'll need to make sure the tmep is higher. I typically use 235c, but it does depend on the printer. Some printers - or different brands of TPU for that matter - require 240-250c. It's one of the pickier filaments to get dialed in.

      This is the old/original version. Unfortunately, the way UA-cam is these days, I have to keep the pace fast or people won't watch. But you're right, the playback speed is a great help for those that want to slow down or speed up :)

    Any suggestions on the 3D printer to buy that is capable if printing threads? I'm a total newbie with an idea. I'm guessing the cheaper printers would not be suitable. The threads I'm wanting are fairly course.

      What is your budget? If you've got the means, I would recommend a Bambu Lab printer. Otherwise, starting with a 'cheap' Ender is totally capable of printing threads. It will depend more on setting up your slicing settings and making sure the bed is level/printer is dialed in.

    Hello, thanks for the great video! Is there a way to offset the mould and the original body? Let's say I want a 5mm gap between the donut body and the mould. Even if it's not possible to do automatically, how might I do it for simple convex solids?

      We made them smaller 😃 I mention you would do the same process as making them smaller but use the "Cut" operation, as shown with the Text near the end of the lesson.

    Interesting way of doing it but imo its bad practice. Better to convert it to a solid first then much easier to edit but also higher quality.

      The key point - this is for quick changes OR when the mesh file won't convert. Many files won't convert.

    I’m starting to be good in tinker cad and I’m going to buy the cheapest Amazon CNC Mill. All I want to do is cut custom graphite molds for pouring silver. Wish me luck

    Can you project mesh surfaces, centers and edges on to a solid sketch?

    • @ProductDesignOnline
      @ProductDesignOnline 7 днів тому

      "Create Mesh Section Sketch" is the main workflow. Unfortunately, the standard "Project" command does not work with mesh bodies due to the nature of the data. Your other option would be to convert it to a brep, even if using the "faceted" option. You could then reference all edges, vertices, faces, including projecting them.

      Thanks! I have a 3-part Design and CAM series in the works (planning/scripting). Not sure if I'll ever do a 30 days series, but do plan to make more CAM-specific lessons. What machine do you have?

      @@ProductDesignOnline I have a Langmuir MR1 and I also have an 8ft Avid router table with Mach4 that I am going to try and and start using Fusion CAM with. I am using Aspire now for the router and would love to convert but I am struggling with the Fusion CAM.

      @@rufustoad1 oh, that's good to know! What are the main issues with the Langmuir? I have heard mix things about them. I do offer private tutoring, though I am booked up until early September - productdesignonline.com/1-on-1-fusion-360-sessions/ I also hope to create some more advanced or project specific CAM courses for the Avid this winter.
